Fade to a young adolescent girl in a room.
what if it was stardust?
excuse me?
the translation of the scripture is, "for dust you are, and to dust you shall return." what if it was STARdust?
[and THAT's how she got the nickname "Star Nerd". she couldn't figure out why science and religion just couldn't seem to agree with one another. it occurred to her that in hearing different accounts of the origin of man, some of the important details in these stories may have been lost in translation. she was always active in science class. when mr banks announced science club, she was the first to raise her hand. but this wasn't mr banks' class, this was the weekly bible study group. everyone turned around and looked at her. the room went completely silent for a moment.]
that's just stupid! [someone in the room yelled out.]
why is it stupid? you believe the first man was formed from earth, right? genesis chapter 3, verse 19 reads
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
that's what The Bible says.
exactly. So what was EARTH formed from? physically it is made of the same components that are in the stars. hydrogen. oxygen. carbon.
[the study leader interrupted before she could keep going]
we need to stay on track and stick to tonight's lesson. if you want to, we can stay after the group is over and talk about it.
[this meant 'stop talking now.']
